The 238th Meeting of MRC took place on 30th March 2014. Book written by Mr.Manohar Devadoss was launched among the fully packed book enthusiast at LAICO auditorium in Madurai. This is the 6th book written by the author. The book is rightly published by an Architect Forum called Consortium Creative.

MRC members are truly blessed on occasions like book launch, since the author himself makes a presentation about the book. Having 'delivered' the book he is the right person to explain the right perspective in which the book is to be viewed.

Manohar Devadoss, affectionately known as 'MANO' is now 76. Although he was involved in science, battery technology and production design, his passion has been towards drawing and painting. MANO is a living legend who overcame lots of challenges in personal life and keeps himself and others cheerful all along the way. His spirit was visible when he proclaimed, Retinitis Pigmentosa - a form of degenerative eye disorder, was not successful with him. With the limited, tunnel vision MANO continues with his passion.

The HOST:
Thanks to Araving Eye Hospital for providing the venue for all the MRC Meetings and the snax. Apart from their large hearted material support, top brass of Aravind were present for the entire meeting. Like all of us they are also crazy of MANO !

From 10.15am, members started trickling in. MANO was graciously seated in the lobby. MRC members, guests, children, young and old alike shook hands with him and got the books writted by him autographed.

Meeting was called to order by convenor of MRC - Mr.Suryanarayanan, fondly called SURI. Honouring the chief guest with a shawl, SURI admired the author and his achievements. MANO is an inspiration for all those who are looking for hope in life.






MANO'S PRESENTATION:
Before commencing his presentation, MANO requested 3 friends to read out a para from his to be launched book. From then on MANO kept the audience spell bound with his 'calculated' drawings. His quest with nature right from his boyhood in 1940 helped him perfect his drawings. His journey in perspective drawings started with train engines. He understood that all objects, be it train or building or roads or landscape or reflection drawings - have the same principle behind the visual effect.

To quote MANO in page 5 of the book "This was the begining of my long drawn love relationship with Perspective.... from the time I was eleven and till now when I am 76. I wish to share with you, dear reader, just some of my personal adventures with perspective"

MANO's adventure was visible when he explained how he stood in the middle of curved railway track with an approaching train. He understood the horizon effect of the scene. He quickly came back home and drew picture of the train. Similarly when he was in his 2nd standard at OCPM school, he narrated how a glider plane flew so close to the school that it almost touched the tall trees. He later understood that the line of vision made it appear that the flight was closer when infact it was not. Much later MANO applied the same principle when he was drawing the busy streets of Madurai or Swimming pool of Thirumalai Naicker Mahal or the American college Main Building.


BOOK RELEASE:
The book was released by Dr.Namperumalswamy, Chairman of Aravind Eye Care systems. 1st copy was received by Dr.Ganapathy Vasudevan and the 2nd copy was received by Mrs.Lakshmi Periyanan.

FELICITATION:
Mr.Thulasiraj - Executive Director Aravind Eye Hospital, Dr.Rajagovindaswamy and Mr.Meenakshisundram felicitated the author and his works. Mr.Thulasiraj fondly recollected how himself and his wife Mrs.Chitra would take MANO for early morning trip to various locations in and around madurai when he was drawing those pictures. It was all the more exciting when 3 of MANO's friends and MANO's teacher were among the audience. They received rich ovation when called on by Mr.Meenakshisundaram who happened to be MANO's senior in college.

Mr.Salil of Aravind Eye Hospital sang a Bharathiyar Song "Chinnanjiru Killiye ..." at the request of the author.

There was brisk sale of the just released book and the books written by MANO earlier. Many of them - children and adults rushed back to the auditorium to get them autographed by MANO.

Filled with creative humor, the 238th meeting of MRC concluded with lots of satisfaction and contention. No doubt, these are once in life time opportunities.

9th Anniversary Meeting of MRC: 234th Meeting on 9th Feb 2014

இன்றைய தினம் மதுரை வாசகர் வட்டத்தில் நடை பெற்ற ஒன்பதாம் ஆண்டு விழாவில்  சிறப்பு விருந்தினர் சென்னை உயர் நீதிமன்றத்தின் பணி நிறைவு செய்த -நீதிபதி திருமதி பிரபா ஸ்ரீதேவன் ஆற்றிய உரையின் ஒரு பார்வை.  

சம உரிமை என்பது வீட்டிலிருந்து துவங்க வேண்டும் என்பது அவர் ஆற்றிய உரையின் தலைப்பு. 

சமுதாயத்தில் ஆண் பெண் என்ற வேறுபாடு மக்களிடையே அடிப்படைக் காரணங்கள் இன்றியே மண்டிக் கிடக்கிறது. அது களையப்பட வேண்டு மென்றால் அதன் முதல் நிலை வீட்டிலிருந்தே துவங்க வேண்டும். ஒரு தாய், ஒரு மனைவி, ஒரு தங்கை,  ஒரு மகள் என்று ஒவ்வொருவரும் சமுதாயத்தையும் பார்க்க வேண்டும். தன் வீட்டில் தன் மனைவி மக்களுக்கு வழங்கப் படாத உரிமையை பொது இடத்தில் மட்டும் பிறருக்கு வழங்கி விட முடியாது.  எனவே வீட்டிலிருந்தே  பெண்ணுக்கு சம உரிமை வழங்கப் பட வேண்டும். 

சிறு வயதினரும் இளையவரும் சமுதாயத்தை பண்போடு நோக்குகின்ற மனப் பாங்கு பெற வேண்டும்.  பன்னெடுங் காலமாக நம்மிடையே இருந்து வருகின்ற பண் பாட்டை 

இன்றைய சமுதாயத்திற்கும் உணர்த்த வேண்டும். பெண் என்பவள் வலிமையற்றவள் - ஏதும் செய்ய இயலாதவள் - வீட்டில் சும்மா இருக்கக் கூடியவள் என்ற மனப்பான்மையை கை விட வேண்டும்.  

தன்னைப் போல் அவளும் சரிசமமாக வீட்டிற்காகப் பாடுபடக் கூடியவள் என்று எண்ணினால் சமுதாயத்தில் மாற்றம் ஏற்படும் என்பதை தான் வழங்கிய தீர்ப்புகளை மேற் கோள் காட்டி எடுத்துரைத்தார். 

சட்டமும் நீதியும் வழங்குகின்ற தீர்ப்புகளீல் மனிதத் தன்மையும் இணைந்தால் பெண்ணை இவ்வாறு இழிவு படுத்தும் சமுதாயத்தின் போக்கும் மாறும்.  உலகின் எவ்விடத்திலும் இல்லாததல்ல இக்குறைபாடு. ஆனால் நம் சமுதாயத்தில் இன்றையச் சூழ்நிலையில் சமுதாயத்தை மிகவும் வாட்டி வதைப்பதாக இருப்பதற்கு ஒரு மாற்றம் வர வேண்டும் என்றால் ஒவ்வொருவரும் தன் வீட்டில் இருந்தே இச்சமத்துவ உரிமையைச் செயல் படுத்த வேண்டும். அப்பொழுதுதான் அன்னையும் பிதாவும் முன்னறி தெய்வமென்று உரைத்த நம் பண்பாடு இந்தத் தலைமுறையினரைப் போய்ச் சென்றடையும். இதற்காக நாம் செயல் பட வேண்டுமென்றார்.

Non-stop 234th meeting is no easy feet. Hats off to convenor CA.Suriyanarayanan for his perfect 'delivery' in every MRC meeting. As usual the anniversary meeting ended with dinner hosted my The Hindu Newspaper. Thanks to Aravind family for their presence in the anniversary meeting and continued support by sponsoring MRC meetings at Aravind Eye Hospital auditorium - all these 234 meetings. 

8th Anniversary Meet : Summary

A Saffron Salute to you all for making MRC’s 8th Anniversary a Grand Event in the annals of MRC’s history. Saffron is the epitome of Patience,Persevearence,Courage,Confidence and Consistancy but definitely Not Terror.All these attributes have been shown in an exemplary manner by the members of MRC in the last 8 years and as Luck would have it, the function on 10th Feb 2013 was presided over by a Saffron clad Sannyasin Sw.Vimurthananda,Editor Ramakrishna Vijayam,Chennai who delivered an outstanding oration on STOP CHASING MONEY AND START ACQUIRING WEALTH.The work of a True Sannyasin is to uproot the weeds of doubt and merge and molt our minds into Trust,Surrender and in a deep and a total YES, this was the feeling one had at the end of the talk by Swamiji on that day. The distinction between Money and Wealth was the starting point of his talk and he said that when one loses all his Money what remains with him is the wealth.While Money is the Visible Wealth, Wealth is not only the invisible Money but includes Name,Fame,Positions,Education,Culture,Good Deeds and Simplicity and much more.Swamiji’s talk was laced with many anecdotes of which the one relating to Goddess Lakshmi and her Sister was really like the icing on the Cake. He brilliantly concluded his talk by seeing the call of Swami Vivekananda to his fellow Indians when he said Arise,Awake and Stop Not till the Goal is Reached, in an amazingly different perception and said Arise from Your Poverty,Awake when you start Getting Money and Stop Not till you yourself become the Wealth. A Message of far reaching implication was delivered not only to us but to the entire world outside.A Fitting Tribute to Sw.Vivekananda thru MRC,truly memorable indeed.

While the Welcome Address by our member Mr.Jayabaskaran was impressive,vote of thanks by Dr.Srinivasan was impeccable.The meeting also felicitated the representatives of Aravind Eyecare,Hindu and Turning Point for their outstanding support to the cause of our Group Activities.The members were then treated with a sumptuous Dinner after which they departed in perfect Peace,Love and Harmony cherishing the memories of the just concluded Anniversary.

மதுரை வாசகர் வட்டம் - 8ம் ஆண்டு நிறைவு விழா : 208th Meeting : 10th Feb 2013

10.02.2013 மாலை நடந்த மதுரை வாசகர் வட்டத்தின் 8ம் ஆண்டு நிறைவு விழாவில் சென்னை ராமகிருஷ்ணா மடத்தினைச் சார்ந்த சுவாமி விமூர்த்தானந்தர் சிறப்பு விருந்தினராய் ஆற்றிய சிறப்புரையின் ஒரு பார்வை.

பணத்தைத் துரத்தாதே ! செலவத்தைச் சேர் - இது நம் மனத்திற்கு இடும் கட்டளை. பணமும் செல்வமும் வாழ்க்கையில் நம்மைப் பந்தாடுகின்றன. எது பணம் எது செல்வம் என்பதை அறிவதற்கே நமக்கு மனத் தெளிவு வேண்டும். செல்வம் என்பது சிந்தையின் நிறைவு. ஆக்கம் அதர்வினாய்ச் செல்லும் அசைவிலா ஊக்கமுடையான் இடத்து என்ற செல்வத்தின் வரையறையை மிக இயல்பான சொற்களால் எளிமையான நடையில் கேட்பவர் மனம் கொள்ளுமாறு இனிமையாகப் பேசினார். சொல் நடையில் ஒரு அதிகாரமோ சொல்லாட்ட்சியில ஒரு ஆணவமோ இல்லாமல் அரிய கருத்துகளை எளிமையாய அவர் வெளிப்படுத்திய தன்மை இதுதான் துறவு என்பதை உணர்த்தியது. அடக்கமும் அன்பும் ஆழமான அறிவும் நிறைந்த சொற்களால் அவர் நிறையக் கருத்துகளை எடுத்துரைத்தார்.

அவர் உரையின் நோக்கம் கேட்பவர்களைச் சென்றடைய வேண்டும் என்ற கருத்தினையேச் சுற்றிச் சுற்றி வந்தது. வாழ்க்கைக்குப் பொருள் வேண்டும் - அதனால் பொருளைத் தேடு - பொருளே வாழ்க்கை அல்ல - போதுமென்ற மனமே பொன் செய்ய்யும் மருந்து - தேவைகளை நிறைவு செய்யப் பொருளீட்டினால் அது மன நிறைவைத் தரும். அளவுக்கு மீறி ஆசைப்பட்டு பேராசையாய்ப் பொருளீட்டினால் அது பெரும் துன்பத்தைத் தந்து விடும்.. அளவான செல்வம் நிறைவான மனத்தைத் தருகிறது. அதற்கு ஒரு அழகான நிகழ்ச்சியாய் எட்டு ரூபாய் சேர்க்கிற ஒருவன் அதில் தானமும் செய்து தருமமும் செய்து எதிர் காலத்திற்கும் திட்டமிட்டு நிகழ் காலத்திலும் நிறைவோடு வாழ்கின்ற வாழ்க்கையை அவர் தெளிவாக எடுத்துரைத்தார்.

படிப்பு, பண்பு, அறிவு, பணம், புகழ், பேர், புனிதம், புண்ணியம் என்ற எட்டையும் பெறுவதே வாழ்க்கை. அதற்குப் பணம் ஒரு கருவி. அவ்வளவே. அது அளவுக்கு மீறினால் கொம்பேற்றிக் கொள்ளும் ( “ப” பி” ஆகும் ). நம்முடைய பெயரும் படிப்பால் பண்பால் அறிவால் உயர வேண்டும். பெயரும் புகழும் பணமும் நல்வழியில் நல்லவற்றைச் செய்ய உதவ வேண்டும்.

பாம்பாட்டிகள் நிறைந்திருந்த இந்தியா இப்பொழுது எலி பிடிப்பவர்கள் நிறைந்த நாடாகி விட்டது - ( IT People use MOUSE ) என்று காலத்திற்கேற்ற நகைச் சுவையோடு வளரும் இந்தியாவை, வளர்கின்ற இந்தியாவை வெளிப்படுத்தினார். வளர்ச்சி சீராக இருக்க வேண்டும் - அது அளவிற்கு மேல் வீங்கி உடலின் வீக்கமாக மாறிவிடக் கூடாது. செல்வம் சேர்வது அதிகமாகின்ற போது ஆணவமும் வளர்ந்து விடுகின்றது. பணம் வேண்டுமானால் சமபாதிப்பவனுடையதாக் இருக்கலாம் ஆனால் அதனைக் கொண்டு அவன் செய்கின்ற செயல் அடுத்தவர்களுக்குத் துன்பம் தராததாக இருக்க வேண்டும். அளவிற்கு மீறி ஆடம்பர ஆணவத்தோடு உணவுப் பொருட்களை வீணாக்குவது மிகப் பெரிய குற்றம். உணவென்பது உலகத்திற்குச் சொந்தமானது - பொதுவானது - அதனைத் தனி ஒரு மனிதன் வீணடிக்கக் கூடாது என்பதை உணவு விடுதிக்குச் சென்று கண்ணில் கண்டதை எல்லாம் வாங்கி உண்ணாமல் மேசையிலேயே அரைகுறையாய் வீணடிக்கின்ற செல்வச் சீமான்களீன் செயலைச் சுட்டிக் காட்டினார்.

ஈட்டுகின்ற பொருள் தமக்கும் பிறர்க்கும் இனபத்தைத் தரவேண்டும். நல்வழியில் ஈட்ட வேண்டும் - நல்லதைச் செய்ய உதவ வேண்டும். இது பொருள் தேடும் முறை. இப்படித் தேடும் பொருளே செல்வமாக மாறும்.
செல்வத்தைத் தேடும் செயலில் விடாமுயற்சி வேண்டும் என்பதற்கு விறகு வெட்டியின் கதையை விளக்கமாகக் கூறி - நீ காட்டிற்குள் செல் - இன்னும் சந்தனக் காட்டிற்குள் செல் - வெள்ளிச் சுரங்கத்தைப் பார் - இன்னும் சென்று தங்கச் சுரங்கத்தைப் பார் - இதற்கும் மேலே சென்று வைரச் சுரங்கத்தைப் பார் - என்று விடாமுயற்சியோடு செயல்படும் மனிதனுக்கு எழு ! விழித்தெழு ! குறிக்கோளை அடையும் வரை போராடு ! என்ற விவேகானந்தரின் வீர உரையை எடுத்துக் காட்டினார். தேடுகின்ற ஒரு பொருட்செல்வம் நமக்கு நன்மையும் வளமும் பெயரும் புகழும் நன்மக்களும் வீரமும் கொடையும் கல்வியும் பயனும் ஆகிய பிற செலவ்ங்களை எல்லாம் தந்து விடும். எனவே இத்தகையச் செல்வத்தைச் சேர்க்க வேண்டும் - பொருளைத் தேடலாம் - ஆனல் அதனைத் துரத்தும் ஆசையை அடக்க வேண்டும் என்ற நோக்கத்தை அழுத்தமாக எடுத்துரைத்தார்.


இக்கருத்துகளை எல்லாம் கூறிய அவர் நான் ஒரு பேச்சாளன் அல்லன் - எனது நோக்கம் நான் கூறுவது கேட்பவரைச் சென்றடைய வேண்டும் என்பதே ! தொண்டரொடு கூட்டுக் கண்டாய் என்ற தொடருக்கு அடக்கத்தின் விளைநிலமாய் துறவியின் சொற்கள் அமைந்தது. உள்ளத்தைத் தொட்டது.

Mr.Ramesh Sivashanmugham,our member then in a good review of the book of author Paulo Cohelo explained how selfishness and narcissistic tendencies cripple one’s happiness and move him to the edge of his life.He said that literacy has to be truly distinguished from Education and when one is truly educated the society is freed of any illdoings from him to others

207th Meeting : 20th Jan 2013 : Culture of Bharathi - Our Nation

Dr.Sivasakthi Balan,Sivakasi was the Guest Speaker on 20th Jan at MRC and he delivered an emotional lecture on the Culture of Bharath,our Nation.He said that our country is known by many names such as Bharath,India and Hindusthan and he explained their origins too dating back to the lives of Sage Viswamitra and Menaka whose grandson Bharatha in whose name our country was henceforth called.Bharath owes and derives its culture from various civilizations that thrived in the Indian subcontinent which was rich in traditions and culture which has been handed down from generation to generation.This took a severe beating after the Mogul and British Invasion as they tried vehemently to uproot this and in a great measure they succeeded too.The learned speaker then referred the quote of Thomas Bobington Macaulay laying special emphasis on his plan of deculturisation.Patience,Selflessness and Power of Soul are the hallmark of our culture and these traits have to be revived amongst the people now to save our culture,he claimed.
